Dolph Lundgren is thriving after beating cancer.
The “Rocky IV” star, 67, gave a health update nearly one year after announcing that he was cancer-free.
“NED, they call it. No evidence of disease,” Lundgren told People at the BAFTA TV Tea Party in Beverly Hills on Saturday.
“It feels good. It was a tough fight to have for about five years,” the Swedish actor continued. “Actually, about three bad years, but now it’s better — so I’m back to normal, working out.”
Lundgren was first diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2015, though he didn’t publicly reveal his diagnosis until 2023. He announced his cancer-free status in November.
The “Universal Soldier” actor told People that he’s taking it slower physically after his years-long health battle.
“I’ve calmed down a little bit,” he shared. “I don’t stay out as late. I don’t work out as hard, but I do hit the gym four, five times a week.”
“I am just a little kinder to myself physically, I think,” Lundgren added.
The father of two also expressed how he has a new perspective on life after having cancer.
“Every day, I’m more grateful for everything I have and everything the universe has given me, and I try to really enjoy the people I love — my kids and my wife and my friends,” he explained.
“It’s been a big eye-opener and it’s actually been a positive experience for me, I think,” Lundgren continued. “If I hadn’t had cancer, I may have done a crazy stunt and killed myself that way, because I was just a little bit too intense before.”
In May 2023, Lundgren revealed he was in the midst of a “serious” cancer battle. He got a tumor in his kidney removed and then went into remission until 2020, when doctors discovered that Lundgren had more tumors, including one on his liver.
Lundgren said his doctor gave him two or three years to live and recommended he take a break from work and spend more time with his family.
“It wasn’t like I was bitter about it,” he explained on a podcast in May 2023. “It was just like, you know, feel sorry for my kids and my fiancée and people around you.”
Last November, Lundgren confirmed he beat cancer while revealing he was undergoing a lung ablation — a procedure that destroys cancer cells through hot or cold energy.
“Since there are no cancer cells in my body anymore, I guess I’ll be cancer-free so I’m looking forward to this procedure,” he told fans in an Instagram video.
“It’s been a rough ride and really taught me how to live in the moment and enjoy every moment of life,” Lundgren said. “I mean, it’s the only way to go.”
