Nerve-racking drone footage from New Mexico shows police working carefully to disarm two children in possession of a handgun.
Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office recently posted the video from an incident they say occurred in February when two brothers, ages 8 and 9, played with a loaded firearm as law enforcement tried to convince them to hand it over.
The sheriff’s office said one boy raised the gun and squeezed its trigger at one point, but no bullet fired.
“You’re not in trouble, but you have to drop that and come talk to us, alright?” one officer shouts from behind a wall as he gets play-by-play from another official watching the drone footage.
Trying to wrestle the gun away from one another, the boys take shelter behind what appears to be a giant outdoor fan. Officers said they distracted the brothers by firing a non-lethal round before making their approach.
“I don’t have a gun!” one of the children insists as cops quickly pull a gun from one of the brothers’ hands.
Cops said they’d been called to the home where the incident occurred at least 50 times for other domestic issues, and credited drone technology with allowing deputies to “secure the area swiftly and safely, ultimately preventing a potential deadly force encounter with the juveniles.”
