A Long Island police officer is accused of hitting a garbage truck while driving drunk against the flow of traffic early Friday morning.
Nassau County police officer Dominick Milazzo, 31, was arrested for the crash that occurred on State Route 135, according to the Nassau County Police Department. Cops said the collision occurred around 4:45 a.m. in Seaford while Milazzo was off-duty.
He was driving his personal vehicle at the time of the accident, according to police.
Following the crash, near Exit 4, Milazzo was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries.
Three unidentified people in the garbage truck, ages 19, 31 and 56, were also taken by to hospitals for minor injuries sustained in the crash.
Milazzo, of Huntington Station, has since been charged with driving while intoxicated. He’ll will be arraigned “when medically practical,” according to police.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
