It will be curtains up again for Dylan Mulvaney when she brings her “reimagined” solo show to New York City this fall.
The trans TikTok star, who ignited a firestorm with a controversial 2023 Bud Light partnership, is returning to her theater roots when she takes center stage in the off-Broadway production of “The Least Problematic Woman in the World.”
Producers announced Monday that the “unapologetically camp” comedy will begin performances at the Lucille Lortel Theatre on Sept. 20 for a limited engagement through Nov. 30. Tickets go on sale starting Aug. 1.
Mulvaney wrote and stars in the autobiographical work, which premiered last year at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival under the incendiary title “Faghag.”
According to the official logline, the show is “bursting with outrageous characters, heartfelt stories and blazing vulnerability” as it explores Mulvaney’s upbringing as a Catholic school kid and her “odyssey through girlhood, fame and self-discovery.”
Like the production in Edinburgh, the off-Broadway show is directed by Tim Jackson, who made his Broadway debut choreographing the 2024 Tony-winning revival of “Merrily We Roll Along.” He more recently directed Kit Buchan and Jim Barne’s rom-com musical “Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York).”
Jackson said it was a “true joy” developing the play with Mulvaney in London.
“I’m thrilled we get to reimagine the show for a New York audience, who I know will be dazzled by her glorious wit, talent and electric personality,” he said in Monday’s announcement, calling the play a story of “joy, courage and heart.”
“Now more than ever we need incredible women like Dylan on our stages,” Jackson added, “telling their stories, broadening horizons and, in this case, giving us the gift of laughter.”
Mulvaney, 28, is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory in Music. Her previous theater credits include regional productions of “High School Musical” and “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” as well as the North American tour of “The Book of Mormon.”
In 2020, Mulvaney turned to TikTok for a creative outlet amid the COVID-19 pandemic, first amassing a few hundred thousand views. Two years later, she was catapulted to fame when she started documenting her gender transition with the “100 Days of Girlhood” series.
She currently boasts 9.1 million followers on the platform.
