An e-bike rider died in a collision with a hospital ambulance in Brooklyn early Sunday, cops said.
Lynwood Wilkerson, 65, was going south on Ashland Place near Willoughby St. in Fort Greene just before 1:10 a.m. when he collided with an NYU Langone Hospital ambulance heading north, police said.
The ambulance crew was searching the area for a man in distress at the time of the collision, police said.
Medics took Wilkerson to Methodist Hospital, but he couldn’t be saved.
The ambulance driver, a 21-year-old woman, and two crew members, a 29-year-old woman and 28-year-old man, were also hospitalized, cops said.
“This was a tragic accident and our sympathies are with the family of the deceased. Our crew was not cited at the scene and suffered no injuries,” NYU Langone said in a statement Sunday. “At the time of the accident, our ambulance was responding to a call and following all policies and protocols. They immediately stopped to render care to the individual until other first responders arrived on scene. We are cooperating with NYPD investigators.”
Wilkerson’s nephew, Calvin Wilkerson, said his uncle was on his way home after a visit.
“He was going home. He was visiting us, where I live,” the nephew said. “We’re literally not even four blocks away from where it happened. Just four blocks.”
