After more than three decades on the air, the E! channel’s flagship program, “E! News,” is coming to an end.
The celebrity-focused newscast, currently hosted by Keltie Knight and Justin Sylvester, has been canceled with plans to run new episodes only through Sept. 25, Variety reported Thursday.
The decision to cancel the show comes as the basic cable channel is being spun off from NBCUniversal by parent company Comcast and folded into Versant, a newly launched media company formerly known as SpinCo.
The new conglomerate, expected to be finalized by the end of the year, also includes the USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, Syfy and the Golf Channel, along with Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, SportsEngine and GolfNow.
This isn’t the first time “E! News” has had its plug pulled. The show, which first debuted in 1991, was initially canceled in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic. It was revived two years later and transformed from a daytime program into a half-hour, late-night broadcast.
With the revamp, former correspondent Sylvester joined ex-3LW member Adrienne Bailon-Houghton as co-anchor. Knight, who previously served as the show’s chief correspondent, was promoted to co-host in March 2024.
An unidentified source told Variety that the latest change in the network’s programming stems from a shift in the appetites of news consumers, who “demand real-time digital coverage.”
The outlet said the network — which boasts 87 million followers across social media — is looking to leverage its specific brand of entertainment news and commentary, which includes live red carpet coverage, across its digital and social landscapes.
Some of the “E! News” correspondents are expected to transition over to other projects, the source said, but those have yet to be determined.
