The Philadelphia Eagles are loading up for another run.
The Eagles acquired pass rusher Jaelan Phillips in a trade with the Miami Dolphins, according to reports, as they continue to try to bolster their embattled defense.
Philly sent a 2026 third-round pick to Miami for Phillips, who has three sacks in nine games this season but is tied for the NFL lead with nine quarterback hurries.
Phillips’ 34 pressures are tied for 12th in the NFL.
Monday’s deal came on the eve of the NFL trade deadline, which is 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
Phillips, 26, is the biggest new addition to an Eagles defense that also acquired a pair of cornerbacks — Michael Carter II from the Jets and Jaire Alexander from the Baltimore Ravens — in trades last week.
Miami took Phillips in the first round of the 2021 draft, and he totaled 15.5 sacks over his first two NFL seasons. However, season-ending Achilles and knee injuries limited Phillips to only 12 games over the 2023-24 seasons.
Phillips had 6.5 sacks in eight games in 2023 under Vic Fangio, who is now the Eagles’ defensive coordinator.
The Eagles (6-2) hope Phillips can provide a boost to a unit that ranks 23rd in total defense by allowing 336.3 yards per game and 19th in opponent scoring by surrendering 23.1 points per game.
Last season, the Eagles allowed the fewest yards per game (278.4) and second-fewest points per game (17.8) in the NFL, but they lost Milton Williams, Josh Sweat and Bryce Huff from that Super Bowl-winning defensive front during the offseason.
Brandon Graham, who retired after the Super Bowl, has since returned to the Eagles for a 16th season following the sudden retirement of fellow defensive end Za’Darius Smith.
Phillips is playing on the fifth-year option of his rookie contract and is primed for free agency after the season.
Miami (2-7) traded Phillips three days after it parted ways with general manager Chris Grier amid a lost season. Champ Kelly is operating as the interim GM.
Two more Dolphins pass rushers in Bradley Chubb and Matthew Judon could be on the move before Tuesday’s deadline, while star wide receiver Jaylen Waddle is considered less likely to be traded.
