Elderly man mowed down by driver in Brooklyn fleeing another collision

An elderly man was mowed down and killed by a hit-and-run driver in Brooklyn on May 10 — just seconds after the same driver  smashed into a nearby vehicle, cops said Wednesday.

The errant driver of a still-unidentified car struck and killed Larry Maxwell, 72, who was found near Sutter Ave. and Osborn St. around 6:31 p.m. in Brownsville, police said.

First responders found Maxwell unconscious and unresponsive and rushed him to Brookdale Hospital Medical Center, where he died, cops said.

That horrific hit-run unfolded just moments after the same driver collided into a 2023 Chevrolet Malibu traveling east on Sutter Ave., cops said. The 46-year-old driver of the Malibu and a passenger remained at the scene and did not report any injuries from the collision, police said. The unidentified driver, however, kept going following that collision, they pair told police.

There have been no arrests in Maxwell’s death while the NYPD Highway District Collision Investigation Squad continues to investigate.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls are confidential.
