The 83-year-old was crossing the street at E. 45th St. and Second Ave. in East Midtown around 2:22 p.m. As she was in the crosswalk on the south side of E. 45th St., a white box truck hit her as it was making a left turn onto Second Ave.

A worker at a nearby deli said the truck driver looked “stunned” as he exited the vehicle.

“The old lady was crossing and the truck turned into her,” he said. “She was unconscious on the ground, her leg was gone and all the blood. I can’t believe she’s going to make it.”

The truck driver remained on scene after the accident and there were no arrests.

The victim was transported to Bellevue Hospital and was said to be in critical condition with severe injuries to her leg.
