Elisabeth Moss says ‘Handmaid’s Tale’ crew member wanted her character’s underwear

It’s a “Handmaid’s Tale” mystery.

Elisabeth Moss, 42, revealed that she asked for her character’s underwear as a keepsake after the final season of “The Handmaid’s Tale” finished filming last month – only to learn that an unknown crew member had already requested the custom undergarments.

Moss, who plays June Osborne on the hit Hulu series, told the surprising story on the Tuesday, March 25, episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”

The Emmy-winning actress said that she made the request in a production-wide email – which was when she learned a mystery crew member had already beaten her to it.

“Wait a minute. This is your custom underwear that you wore, and some creep on the staff requested it — in writing requested it?” Kimmel, 57, responded. “Like, ‘I want Elisabeth’s underpants. I’m gonna take ’em home. I’m gonna put ’em in storage for a while.’”

Even though the sixth and final season of “The Handmaid’s Tale” wrapped filming on February 10, Moss said that she still does not know who the crew member who wanted her character’s undies was.

“I don’t wanna know,” she said.

“I went to work with these people!” Moss added when pressed by Kimmel. “I don’t wanna know who wants my underwear! I didn’t think anyone would want it!”

Kimmel, meanwhile, could not get over the absurdity of the entire situation.

“What kind of a crazy thing is that to say?!” he emphasized. “Oh my God, I hope it’s a woman.”

“I mean, really,” Kimmel continued. “Someone made a formal request for your underwear — like in writing, in an email — that they shared with other people. We need to know who that person is.”

Moss then agreed to return to “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” the moment she learns who the mystery “Handmaid’s Tale” crew member was.

“Maybe we’ll have some kind of live, pay-per-view thing where we announce the name,” Kimmel joked.

“At the end of the season, maybe you can tack on a little post-show on Hulu in which you reveal who took the underwear,” the comedian added. “It’ll be like ‘The Bachelor Men Tell All’ special.”

But while Moss was unable to score all the souvenirs she wanted from the set of “The Handmaid’s Tale,” the actress did confirm that she was able to take some special items home from the set of “Mad Men” after its final season in May 2015.

“I took my chair. The last chair that I sat in as Peggy, this purple chair,” Moss said. “But it’s not a very nice chair, so it’s just in storage. I don’t know what to do with it! I don’t know why I have a chair.”

As for the final season of “The Handmaid’s Tale,” Moss said it is an appropriate time for the story to end.

“We don’t want to overstay our welcome,” she told Kimmel. “You always want to kind of be the people that you leave the party early and I think our story is coming to a close.”

The last season of “The Handmaid’s Tale,” which is based on author Margaret Atwood’s book of the same name, premieres April 8 on Hulu with a three-episode drop.
