Elon Musk called off the Monday night launch of his Starship Flight 10 for a second consecutive night amid weather concerns.
The very large spacecraft was ready to launch from its Texas base when Musk pulled the plug around 8 p.m.
“Launch called off for tonight due to anvil clouds over launch site (lightning risk),” Musk posted on his social media platform.
His SpaceX company confirmed the aborted plan.
“Standing down from today’s flight test attempt due to weather. Starship team is determining the next best available opportunity to fly,” the company posted.
Musk also hoped to launch Starship Flight 10 on Sunday, but encountered a technical issue.
“Ground side liquid oxygen leak needs to be fixed. Aiming for another launch attempt tomorrow,” he posted early Monday morning.
Getting Musk’s evolving Starship off the ground for the 10th time will be no small feat.
The 400-foot-tall vessel is powered by 33 engines. Nothing more massive has ever been shot into space.
It wasn’t immediately clear when the next launch attempt will be made. Space.com reports when that happens, Starship 10 will conduct several aerial experiments before splashing down in the Gulf of Mexico seven minutes after leaving its launchpad.
Musk has repeatedly stated his intentions to build a starship that can deliver humans to Mars. When he wasn’t offering insight into his rocket launch Monday, the 54-year-old South African native used his social media platform to draw attention to his other obsessions —crimes allegedly committed by migrants.
“And another one,” Musk posted alongside a link to a story about a British woman being raped by a suspect believed to have been in London illegally.
