Elon Musk said Department of Government Efficiency staffers have no plans to take their “eye off the ball” when it comes to slashing government waste and spending as the richest man alive prepares to transition out of his role in the Trump administration.
While the billionaire tech entrepreneur’s status as a special government employee officially expires May 30, he is still expected to continue advising the DOGE effort informally.
“It’s a long-term enterprise because if we take our eye off the ball, the waste and fraud will come roaring back,” Musk told Fox News host Jesse Watters in clip of their forthcoming sit-down interview Thursday.
“We’re trying to have it be such that the funding is removed, the grants are gone. There’s a lot of work required to restart the waste and fraud.”
Musk, the 53-year-old CEO of Tesla and SpaceX and owner of X, has served as an unpaid temporary government employee since DOGE formed in January.
He previously boasted that DOGE cut about $160 billion in annual spending — after settling a $1 trillion goal.
