The Empire State Building, begging forgiveness via X from New Yorkers, lit up in the green and white colors of the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night after their win in the NFC Championship Game.
“We will be lighting tonight for the winners of the AFC and NFC Championships,” building operators warned on social media before the games.
“Please don’t yell at me.”
The Eagles dominated the Washington Commanders in the NFC title game, winning 55-23 and booking their ticket to the Super Bowl.
As the game remained somewhat close down the stretch, the Empire State Building account on X began begging the Commanders for a comeback.
“Commanders I need you to do me a huge favor in the next 15 minutes,” the account posted.
However, the team did not oblige, and the building was lit up in the colors of the New York Giants’ rivals.
“I’m sorry I have to do this,” the account wrote after the game. “Shining in Eagles colors in honor of their NFC Championship win.”

The indignity, however, won’t last kong. The colors will change following the the AFC Championship Game between the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs.
The Giants have not appeared in the Super Bowl since February 2012. Meanwhile, the Jets haven’t played in a Super Bowl since their lone win in January 1969.
