Estranged brothers NY reunion ends with youngest killing his older siblings: cops

A New York native fatally shot his two brothers at an upstate hunting cabin on Sunday night, state police said Monday.

Scot Thompson, 65, was charged with two counts of second-degree murder for the killings of Mark Thompson, 70, and David Thompson, 69, around 10 p.m. Sunday in Allen, authorities said.

The three brothers, originally from Dansville, N.Y., were previously estranged but got together for the weekend trip to Allen, state troopers told the Albany Times-Union. Scot and David lived in Florida, while Mark was a resident of Canterbury, Conn.

The group had been at the cabin for a couple days when a physical altercation erupted Sunday night, and one of the brothers called 911, police said. By the time officers arrived at the isolated cabin, Mark and David Thompson were dead.

Scot Thompson fled the scene in David’s vehicle, but he was captured about an hour later by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office and Geneseo Police Department, according to authorities. He surrendered without incident.

“Just kind of sibling arguments,” Trooper James O’Callaghan told the Times-Union. “I guess it built up over the weekend.”

Scot Thompson was held in Allegany County jail without bail, cops said. His first court appearance was scheduled for Feb. 23, 2026.
