Cops have arrested a 32-year-old ex-con they say slashed another man in the face during an unprovoked attack outside a Lower East Side subway station, officials said Tuesday.
Demitri Marshall was taken into custody around 5:30 p.m. Monday, less than 12 hours after he attacked a 27-year-old man outside the East Broadway station near Canal and Essex Sts., officials said.
The victim had just exited the station around 7:40 a.m. Monday when Marshall ran up to him and slashed him in the face, officials said.
EMS transported the victim to New York-Presbyterian Hospital Lower Manhattan Hospital, where he was in stable condition.
After a search of the area after the attack, cops grabbed Marshall and charged him with assault.
His arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court was pending on Tuesday.
The heavily tattooed Marshall, who has an extensive criminal history with 15 arrests, spent a year in prison after being convicted of third-degree robbery in Manhattan and was paroled on June 3, 2024, state records show. His parole ended in March.
Since then, he was arrested three times before Monday’s attack
Notably, on Sept. 15, cops in the Bronx arrested Marshall on assault, weapons possession and harassment charges for an incident on Aug. 28. He was released after his arraignment since none of the charges warranted bail, according to court records.
He has two other pending cases in Manhattan, both for misdemeanor assault.
