Ex-NYPD officer gets 3-6 years for L.I. DUI crash that injured 2

A former NYPD officer was sentenced Monday to 3-6 years in prison for a drunk driving crash that injured two women on Long Island in 2023.

George Moore, 40, pleaded guilty in the case back in November 2024. Nassau County Judge Howard Sturim told Moore he considered his years of police work before delivering the sentence, Newsday reported.

Moore was still an NYPD officer on the morning of Aug. 4, 2023, and was traveling from a night out in Rockville Center to his job in Queens, according to investigators.

Moore was behind the wheel of a 2014 Mercedes with a woman in the passenger’s seat and speeding along the Meadowbrook State Parkway when he collided with the back of a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, police said.

The collision ended with Moore’s vehicle upside down and engulfed in flames on the side of the road, cops said. Miraculously, both he and the woman in the passenger’s seat survived the wreck. A woman driving the Jeep was also injured but survived.

“As a member of law enforcement, George Moore had a sworn duty to protect and serve the public, yet he did the opposite. He chose to violate that trust by driving while intoxicated and put lives at risk,” Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly said Monday. “His actions were not only a betrayal of his oath, but also a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of impaired driving.”

Moore resigned from the NYPD after the crash.
