Ex of Olympian who confessed infidelity rejects grand gesture

Norwegian Olympian Sturla Holm Lægreid’s ex-girlfriend has no intention of taking him back, even after he used his post-win interview Tuesday to let the world know he loved her — and had cheated on her.

The wronged woman — who cheered on Lægreid’s teammate Johan-Olav Botn for winning the gold medal in the men’s 20km biathlon — anonymously told Norwegian outlet VG, “It is hard to forgive.”

“Even after a declaration of love in front of the whole world,” she wrote, according to a translation, “I have not chosen to be put in this position, and it hurts to have to stand in it. We have been in contact and he is aware of my opinions about this.”

After winning the bronze medal for the men’s 20km biathlon, 28-year-old Lægreid cried as he told the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation that “a week ago,” he told “the love of [his] life” of his recent infidelity, at which point he was promptly dumped. The pair met six months ago and he stepped out on her three months in.

Lægreid said the breakup kicked off “the hardest week of [his] life.” Though he acknowledged that airing their dirty laundry was a form of “committing social suicide,” Lægreid hoped it “might show her how much I love her.”

One user on X — formerly Twitter — dubbed Lægreid’s confession “the most absurd medal interview of all time.”

“Put this in the post-race interview hall of fame,” responded sports writer Marley Dickinson.

“Bro found his dream woman but still couldn’t manage to stay away from others for longer than an average season,” quipped another observer.
