Ex Virginia weatherman arrested over sexual extortion scheme

A former Virginia meteorologist was arrested this week for allegedly extorting some with whom he had filmed a sex tape.

Josh Fitzpatrick, 42, was arrested Tuesday in Ohio on a fugitive warrant after he had fled Virginia to avoid being charged with felony sexual extortion and unlawful creation of image of another.

“Investigators learned that Fitzpatrick had relocated to Ohio shortly after the investigation began,” Albemarle County Police said in a news release. “With the assistance of Ohio law enforcement, Fitzpatrick was arrested on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. He is currently being held in Ohio awaiting extradition to Virginia.”

Fitzpatrick allegedly filmed a consensual sexual encounter with the victim without their knowledge and then threatened to release it.

“We feel that there may be some other victims out there, we do know that this person was recorded unknowingly,” Albemarle County Capt. Darrell Byers said.

Fitzpatrick worked at WVIR-TV in Charlottesville but left the station and the state amid the investigation earlier this year, relocating to Ohio in March.

Fitzpatrick could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
