Family of Queens cyclist killed in collision say truck driver was to blame

The family of a Queens cyclist fatally hit by a pickup truck this week wants justice, the man’s niece and nephew told the Daily News.

“All this is so recent,” said Jacky Huang, nephew of the 48-year-old deceased cyclist, Xi Zheng. “We’re just all trying to make sense of it.”

“He was on his way to work on a bike,” he added. “He always biked to work.”

Police say Zheng was traveling west on Sanford Ave. in Flushing Tuesday morning when he collided with a 23-year-old man driving a Ford F-150 truck making a right turn onto the avenue from 160th St.

Zheng was pronounced dead at New York-Presbyterian Hospital Queens a short time later.

The driver stayed at the the scene, and police have not filed any criminal charges against him.

“Obviously, we want justice,” Maggie Huang, Zheng’s niece, told The News. “We are working closely with the authorities.”

His nephew said the family has been talking to attorneys.

“He was in the bike lane,” he said of his uncle. “Then the driver on 160th St. was making a right turn.”

Zheng is the second cyclist killed on the streets this year in New York City. Twenty cyclists died in the city last year.
