The FBI is offering a massive reward for information leading to the arrest of the person who placed pipe bombs outside the Democratic National Committee and Republican National Committee headquarters the night before the Capitol riots on Jan. 6, 2021.
“The FBI and its partners are renewing their call for tips from the public, with a reward available of up to $500,000,” it said.
The agency also released several new security camera videos of the still-unidentified suspect Wednesday, providing a visual timeline of their movements through Washington, D.C., both before and after the bombs were placed. Several of the clips see the person walking toward the DNC headquarters, where a bomb was left at around 7:54 p.m. Another shows the suspect approaching the RNC shortly before a bomb was placed there around 8:16 p.m.
Authorities have previously released footage of the suspect walking around the Capitol Hill neighborhood and sitting on a park bench near the DNC building.
Investigators believe the suspect is around 5 feet and 7 inches tall. They were last seen wearing a grey hoodie, Nike sneakers, a mask, gloves and glasses. They also carried a backpack, authorities said.
While the bombs did not detonate, the FBI previously described them as “viable,” adding that they “could have seriously injured or killed innocent bystanders.” They were discovered the following afternoon on Jan. 6, 2021, as a mob made up of pro-Trump protesters breached the U.S. Capitol in a bid to block the certification of President Joe Biden’s electoral win.
According to the FBI, the explosives were made out of 1×8-inch pipes, kitchen timers and homemade black powder.
