A vacant Bronx home that sold for $3.3 million in 2022 was destroyed in a fire on Friday, firefighters said.
The blaze ignited in the basement of the Palisade Ave. home near Ladd Rd. in Riverdale around 9:24 a.m., Deputy Fire Chief Jeffrey Facinelli told reporters at the scene.
Firefighters swiftly extinguished the fire in the basement, but the flames spread through voids in the walls, and smoke eaters continued pouring water into the home as fires broke out on the first and second floors and attic, Facinelli said.
There were no injuries, Facinelli said.
A neighbor told the Daily News that the property had been vacant for at least a year.
“I was surprised there was a fire. It’s been obviously vacant,” Kevin Slavin said. “What’s strange to me is that it’s been boarded up, obviously no one’s living there, but there’s been attention paid to the grounds.
“Their grounds are kept nicer than mine.”
The property, which was previously home to Alice and Stuart Boynton, was sold to Palisade Rose LLC for $3.3 million in Dec. 2022, according to a Riverdale Press report.
