A man died after a fire erupted inside a Manhattan NYCHA complex Thursday night, firefighters said.
The fire broke out inside a ninth-floor apartment on Columbus Ave. near W. 104th St. inside the Frederick Douglass Houses on the Upper West Side around 9:16 p.m., firefighters said.
Rescuers discovered a 64-year-old man unconscious suffering from smoke inhalation inside the smoldering unit, cops said.
After performing CPR on the victim at the scene, medics rushed the man to St. Luke’s Hospital in critical condition, where he died, said police.
The blaze, which firefighters quashed just before 10 p.m., was confined to the single apartment, firefighters said.
FDNY fire marshals will investigate the cause of the fire.
