Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston return in ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ revival

Malcolm is back — and he’s bringing chaos with him.

The first teaser for the “Malcolm in the Middle” revival series, officially titled “Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair,” was released Monday, featuring Frankie Muniz as his now-grown up child prodigy character, Malcolm.

“My life is fantastic now,” Muniz’s Malcolm says in Disney’s 40-second teaser. “All I had to do was stay away from my family!”

It’s revealed that Malcolm, who has a daughter named Leah (Keeley Karsten), has spent the last decade hiding from his family, including dad Hal (Bryan Cranston), mom Lois (Jane Kaczmarek) and siblings Francis (Christopher Masterson), Reese (Justin Berfield), Dewey (Caleb Ellsworth-Clarke), Jamie (Anthony Timpano) and Kelly (Vaughan Murrae).

But everything changes when Malcolm is invited to his parents’ 40th wedding anniversary party.

“You can’t spend the rest of your life hiding and denying your family even exists,” Malcolm gets told by his girlfriend, Tristan (Kiana Madeira).

“It worked perfectly until they showed up,” he responds.

The official logline for the upcoming four-part series reads, “After shielding himself and his daughter from his family for over a decade, Malcolm is dragged back into their orbit when Hal and Lois demand his presence at their 40th anniversary party.”

“Malcolm in the Middle” aired on Fox from 2000 to 2006, for seven seasons and over 100 episodes.

The entire cast is returning for the revival except Erik Per Sullivan, who played Dewey in the original series. Sullivan, 34, retired from acting in 2010.

Muniz, 40, exclusively spoke to The Post last month about how the revival came to be.

“We started talking about doing the reboot over ten years ago,” he said. “And then Bryan Cranston really kind of took the lead in pushing it. But early on, we sent out an email, me and Bryan, to everybody kind of saying like, ‘Hey, if this happened, would you guys be interested?’ Just to gauge.”

Muniz also gushed over getting to reunite with his former co-stars for the project.

“It’s rare that you get another chance at something, right?” he said. “Also to be 20 years later and know the impact that the show had on people all around the world. You go into it with a greater appreciation, but also know that people are really going to love it. Normally when you make a movie or TV show, you don’t know if people are going to like it or if it’s going to be good. So I think we made a show that people are going to love.”

“Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair” premieres April 10 on Hulu and Disney+.
