A worker was rescued on Monday after falling 40 feet into a corn silo at a Frito-Lay plant in Denver.
A Denver Fire Department crew responded to the scene around noon local time after a “confined space incident” report.
Upon arriving to the scene, responders determined the man was not stuck in the corn or sinking, but needed to “be extricated from the silo from above.”
A rope and a harness were then lowered into the silo, which the worker was able to put on without assistance, as the crew worked to put together a lowering/lifting system. The man was then able to reach a ladder near the top of the silo and get out.
The man said he was not injured but was evaluated at the scene by paramedics.
Frito-Lay said the worker received prompt medical attention for minor injuries and is expected to fully recover. The company said it’s reviewing how the incident occurred and added it did not disrupt operations at the plant or affect any products.
