Two-time Oscar-winner Gene Hackman, his musician wife Betsy Arakawa and their pet dog were discovered dead at their home in New Mexico, police said.
Deputies with the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office were performing a wellness check on Wednesday when they found the couple inside their residence in Hyde Park, around 1:45 p.m. They were both pronounced dead at the scene, as was their canine companion, Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Denise Womack-Avila told CNN on Thursday morning.
Their causes of death have not been released, but investigators do not suspect foul play at this time. Womack-Avila said an investigation is ongoing, but did not provide further details.
Hackman, hailed for his refined performances in films like “The Royal Tenenbaums,” “The French Connection,” and “Unforgiven,” was 96 years. A five-time Academy Award nominee, he was also beloved for his portrayal of Basketball coach Norman Dale, in the sports classic, “Hoosiers,” in addition to movies like “Bonnie and Clyde,” “The Poseidon Adventure,” “Mississippi Burning” and “Superman.”
