Georgia police captain shot in the head, suspect at large


Authorities in Georgia were on a manhunt Saturday for a suspect accused of shooting and critically wounding a police captain.

The officer, Brantley Worley, a three-year veteran of the McCaysville Police Department, was shot in the head on Friday while responding to a call at around 11:10 p.m., 11 Alive reported.

According to Chief Michael Earley, Worley suffered a broken neck and a brain bleed, and remains in critical condition after being airlifted to a hospital in Chattanooga.

“Captain Worley is a dedicated officer who has faithfully served this community, and we are asking everyone to keep him, his family, and our department in your thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time,” Chief Earley said.

The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Timothy Ramsey, has managed to evade law enforcement in the hours since the shooting. He’s now the subject of a “Blue Alert,” issued to speed the apprehension of suspects accused of killing or seriously wounding a law enforcement officer.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation described Ramsey as 5-foot-11 and around 185 pounds, with blonde hair and blue eyes. He was last seen on foot near 1st Street in McCaysville, wearing a green top, dark pants and a motorcycle helmet.

Police said Ramsey should be considered armed and extremely dangerous and urged the public against approaching him.
