Giants defensive line coach Andre Patterson has prostate cancer, he revealed Tuesday.
Patterson has continued to coach the Giants after being diagnosed earlier this year and as he’s undergone treatment, he told ESPN.
“Make sure you get checked,” said Patterson, who told the outlet that his outlook is positive.
Tuesday‘s revelation came less than three months after Giants co-owner John Mara announced that he is battling cancer.
Multiple players said they have been aware of Patterson’s situation since the spring.
“If he didn’t tell us anything, we wouldn’t have known,” defensive tackle Roy Robertson-Harris told ESPN. “That’s what kind of dude he is. There’s no drop off.”
Patterson, 65, is in his fourth season with the Giants and in his 21st as an NFL defensive line coach.
“I think we give him life,” defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence told ESPN. “Obviously that’s not an easy thing to go through, but I think we give him life and he enjoys coming in and helping us get better.”
During his first year with the Giants in 2022, Patterson spent eight days in the Intensive Care Unit for an undisclosed health issue.
Patterson is among the longest-tenured Giants coaches. He was hired by Brian Daboll, who was fired as head coach in November. Defensive coordinator Shane Bowen and assistant defensive line coach Bryan Cox have since been fired as well.
