Giants LB Micah McFadden to have foot surgery

Giants starting inside linebacker Micah McFadden will have surgery on his right foot and will miss a significant part of the 2025 season, the Daily News has confirmed.

McFadden, 25, a fourth-year pro originally drafted by Joe Schoen in 2022, was carted off the field with 7:54 remaining in Sunday’s season opener after making a tackle on Washington Commanders running back Austin Ekeler.

The Giants put his lower right leg in an aircast on the field and listed him as out with an injury to his leg/foot. A mid-game report cited optimism that X-rays at the stadium were negative.

But additional testing early this week revealed that McFadden will have to miss “a significant part of the season” with a foot injury, NFL Network first reported. And McFadden will actually have to undergo surgery on his foot to address the injury, per ESPN.

There is hope that McFadden’s injury won’t be season ending, but his absence is a major blow.

Backup Darius Muasau, who replaced McFadden alongside Bobby Okereke in Sunday’s opener, is a clear downgrade at the position.

Washington offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury attacked Muasau immediately on the first play after McFadden’s injury for a Jayden Daniels touchdown pass to Zach Ertz.

And an explosive Dallas Cowboys offense is on deck.
