Giants waive Younghoe Koo as kicker carousel continues

The Giants are making another change at kicker.

Two days after he missed a pair of long field-goal attempts, the Giants waived Younghoe Koo.

Ben Sauls, a rookie kicker on the Giants’ practice squad, could get the call for Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings at MetLife Stadium.

Koo missed attempts from 51 and 52 yards in the Giants’ 29-21 loss to the Washington Commanders over the weekend.

He was 4-of-6 on field goals and 11-of-12 on extra points in five games with the Giants.

Koo, who played at Ridgewood High School in Bergen County, was not credited with a miss when he pulled up and failed to attempt a kick against the New England Patriots earlier this month.

Tuesday’s transaction continued the Giants’ carousel at kicker.

They started the season with Graham Gano, but the 38-year-old landed on injured reserve twice and is currently out with a neck issue.

Gano was also limited during the Giants’ Week 3 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs after he hurt his groin during warmups, marking the third year in a row that Gano’s sudden unavailability contributed to a loss.

In between Gano’s absences this year, Jude McAtamney served as the kicker from Weeks 4 through 7. But McAtamney missed three extra points, including two costly ones during the Giants’ 33-32 loss to the Denver Broncos on Oct. 19.

Sauls, an undrafted free agent out of Pittsburgh, spent time with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Atlanta Falcons this year but was never added to either team’s active roster.

He went 5-of-6 on field goals in the preseason with the Steelers. Sauls signed with the Giants last month.

The Giants also claimed Patriots linebacker Caleb Murphy off waivers on Tuesday. Murphy, a three-year NFL veteran, has two tackles in five games this year.

And the Giants designated offensive lineman Evan Neal (hamstring) to return from IR, opening his 21-day practice window.
