Grimes, a Canadian musician who shares three children with billionaire tech tycoon Elon Musk, has pulled the plug on her upcoming Pride performance in Washington, D.C., citing issues in her family.
“I am so so sorry and regretful to say I have to cancel my Pride show in order to deal with family issues,” she tweeted early Monday morning. “I want to say that I am aware the situation has been a great inconvenience to the fans for some time, and I am truly determined to make sure this is no longer the case very soon.”
Grimes had been set to perform at the two-day World Pride Music Festival, held on June 6-7, which will also feature Jennifer Lopez, Paris Hilton, Kim Petras and RuPaul among its star-studded lineup.
Without providing further specifics on why she dropped out of the gig, the “Welcome to the Opera” singer said the festival is “still going to be amazing and the lineup is great,” promising fans that she’d make it up to them very soon.
Grimes is the mother of three of Musk’s 14 reported children. The 37-year-old singer dated Musk from 2018 to 2022. The former couple share 5-year-old X Æ A-Xii (also known as Lil X), 3-year-old daughter Exa Dark Sideræl and 2-year-old son Tau Techno Mechanicus.
The eldest of their kids went viral after his nose-picking appearance at an Oval Office press conference in February when Musk addressed reporters regarding his work for the controversial Department of Government Efficiency.
Though Grimes typically stays out of the political fray, she expressed her frustration with the youngster being paraded around in public, saying she only learned about it on social media.

Grimes also faced backlash after Musk went viral for appearing to give a Nazi salute following Trump’s inauguration in January.
“I am not him,” Grimes tweeted. “I will not make a statement every time he does something. I can only send love back into a world that is hurting.”
