Here’s how to watch Sebastian Stan in ‘A Different Man’

At last night’s Golden Globes, Sebastian Stan became a first-time winner for his lead performance in “A Different Man” and used his acceptance speech to implore viewers to “end” their discomfort around disfigurement and disability, which is a major theme of the film.

Stan, perhaps best known for his portrayal of Bucky Barnes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, was a double-nominee in this year’s Globes; in addition to his win for “A Different Man,” he was nominated in the Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama category for his work in “The Apprentice” playing a young Donald Trump.

In “A Different Man,” Stan plays aspiring actor Edward, who has neurofibromatosis, a genetic condition that causes tumors to grow on the skin and bone. Edward undergoes an experimental medical treatment that dramatically changes his appearance. Stan’s co-star in the film is Adam Pearson, who has neurofibromatosis in real life.

Accepting his award, Stan said, “Our ignorance and discomfort around disability and disfigurement has to end now. We have to normalize it and continue to expose ourselves [and our children] to it. Encourage acceptance. One way we can do that is by continuing to champion stories that are inclusive.”

The Romanian-American actor also noted that “we can’t be afraid and look away” from films that tackle difficult subjects like his two 2024 projects, and shouted out both Pearson and “A Different Man” director Aaron Schimberg.

As we head into Oscars season, this win certainly gives the film some momentum going forward. Miss it in the theaters? Here’s how you can watch “A Different Man” at home.
