An SUV driver killed a woman crossing a Lower East Side street, then sped off down the street without stopping, police said Friday.
Cops were looking for the fleeing SUV and also trying to identify the woman who died.
The woman was in the marked crosswalk on Stanton St. at Clinton St. just before 7 p.m. when the black SUV careened into her, cops said.
The SUV driver was heading east on Clinton St. and was making a right onto Stanton St. when the vehicle struck the woman.
The driver never stopped, cops said.
EMS rushed the woman to Bellevue Hospital, where she died. Cops were trying to identify her on Friday.
Members of the NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad were searching the area for surveillance footage that can help them identify the SUV and the driver.
