The widow of the late hockey player and high school coach Matthew Gaudreau was preparing to ring in a bittersweet new year Tuesday after giving birth to their first child.
Madeleine Gaudreau, whose husband was killed in August along with his brother, NHL player Johnny Gaudreau, revealed Sunday that their son had been born.
Tripp Matthew is “Mommy & Daddy’s world,” she captioned an Instagram photo of her holding the newborn’s tiny hand. Next to him was a tiny sign reading, “He’s Here.”
Matthew, 29, and Johnny, 31, died when a drunk driver slammed into their bicycles in Oldmans Township, N.J. last August. The driver, Sean Higgins, admitted he’d been drinking beer, and was indicted Dec. 11 for reckless vehicular homicide, aggravated manslaughter and other charges.
Johnny Gaudreau’s widow revealed at his Sept. 9 funeral that she was also expecting, with their third child on the way. The brothers had been in town to serve as groomsmen for their sister’s wedding the day after the crash.
