Let us rejoicify: “Wicked” has finally made its way to Peacock!
Released in theaters ahead of Thanksgiving 2024, “Wicked” grossed over $700 million worldwide, and after a VOD release to ring in the new year, the movie musical is now part of NBC’s streamer, Peacock.
Based on the long-running Broadway musical of the same name (and the novel that inspired it), “Wicked” is a prequel to “The Wizard of Oz” that explores the life of the Wicked Witch of the West before her encounter with Dorothy and that bucket of water. Named Elphaba in the musical and film, the Wicked Witch is played by Tony Award winner Cynthia Erivo.
Green goes good — er, well — with pink, and it’s no surprise that Erivo goes well with her co-star Ariana Grande, who portrays the iconic Glinda the Good. Both Grande and Erivo received Oscar nominations for their work on the film.
In fact, “Wicked” got 10 nods at the 2025 Oscars, and it took home two: Best Costume Design for Paul Tazewell and Best Production Design for Lee Sandeles and Nathan Crowley.
If you’ve been wanting to rewatch “Wicked” (even if it’s every day, we won’t judge), now’s your chance.
