Hunter Biden is too broke to pay lawyer, challenges Trump’s sons to a ‘cage match’

WASHINGTON — Hunter Biden is crying poor again over legal debts he incurred from retaining high-powered attorney Abbe Lowell in his federal tax and gun crime case — even as the troubled former first son announced a US-based tour with a popular YouTuber where he wants to cage-fight President Trump’s sons.

Lowell’s firm Winston and Strawn LLP sued Biden in Washington, DC, civil court in June 2025 for breach of contract over the unpaid fees — which Biden said as recently as last December racked up to as much as $15 million for all his legal woes in recent years.

But as of March 2026, Biden and the law firm have been unable to agree on the total amount he owes, prompting a request to the judge to settle the dispute centered on the production of emails and other records memorializing what “portion” of the sum has gone unpaid.

WASHINGTON — Hunter Biden is crying poor again to legal debts he incurred while employing criminal defense attorney Abbe Lowell in his defense against federal tax and gun crimes.

“Neither we nor our client know the ultimate amount owed,” Biden’s new lawyer Barry Coburn acknowledged in court papers filed Monday in DC Superior Court, as the deadline to produce discovery documents was scheduled for April 9.

“Our client is timpecunious. We have not engaged a billing consultant or forensic accountant to review the bills, just as we have not engaged an e-discovery vendor. We cannot afford it,” Coburn wrote, adding that the Biden scion now “lives abroad” and is unable to even “pay his current lawyers.”

He, his South African-born wife Melissa Cohen Biden, and son Beau had been spotted in Cape Town in March and May 2025 with a Secret Service detail in tow, though it’s unclear if he has a permanent address now in the country or elsewhere.

The DC court filing came just days before the 46th president’s son announced he would embark on a multi-city tour in the American southwest with Callaghan, challenging President Trump’s sons to fight him in a “cage match.” Channel 5 / X

Hunter was previously delinquent on up to $6.5 million he owed another one of his former lawyers, Kevin Morris, who earned a fortune representing the creators of the television series “South Park.”

Morris testified to House committees probing the then-first son’s finances in January 2024 that Hunter could have done “any number of things” to pay him back — including “come over and wash your car for the rest of their life.”

The Republican-led inquiry found evidence that nearly $30 million had been funneled into Biden family accounts from Hunter’s foreign business ventures during and after his father’s vice presidency.

The DC court filing came just days before the 46th president’s son announced he would embark on a multi-city tour in the American southwest with Andrew Callaghan, who hosts YouTube series Channel 5, challenging Trump’s sons to fight him in a “cage match.”

“He asked me to come out on the ‘Channel 5’ Carnival Tour at the end of the month,” Hunter said of Callaghan in an X post. “I think he’s trying to organize a cage match, me versus Eric and Don Jr.”

“I told him I’d do it — 100% in — if he can pull it off. And if he can’t, I’m still coming,” he added.

It’s unclear if Hunter will be paid for his cagefighting or appearances at the events in Phoenix, San Diego and Albuquerque.

Past court filings in other cases show that the pardoned first son’s net worth has plummeted since his father, former President Joe Biden, left the White House.

In March 2025 court papers, the novice artist said he had sold just one abstract work from his catalogue for $36,000 since December 2023. Sales of his 2021 memoir “Beautiful Things” also fell from 3,200 copies to just 1,100 copies over two six-month periods in the same year.

A $3 million rental home Hunter’s family had in Malibu became “unlivable” after the Palisades Fire wildfires, he claimed in court papers that same month, though photos show it seemingly unscathed even though homes around it burned to the ground.

Hunter had taken in almost $1.5 million following dad’s election in 2020 and in the early years of the Biden administration.

It’s unclear if he’s ever received payments for his appearances on podcasts like Callaghan’s, where in July 2025 he went on a foul-mouthed rant against Hollywood star George Clooney and others who disparaged his father’s 2024 re-election effort.

For his part, the former president, repped by Creative Artists Agency, had been pursuing all-expenses-paid speaking engagements and asking for up to $300,000 per event — but is “having trouble booking gigs,” a source told The Post in April 2025.

Coburn declined to comment. Lowell did not respond to a request for comment.
