Hunter Biden refused to say sorry Thursday in response to Melania Trump’s threat to sue him for $1 billion if he doesn’t retract and say sorry for claiming Jeffrey Epstein introduced her and Donald Trump.
Asked about the 10-figure demand for an apology, Hunter Biden said: “Uh, f–k that. Not gonna happen.”
The former presidential son said he was simply repeating reports by journalist Michael Wolff about the Epstein connection between Melania and Donald Trump.
Hunter Biden cited reports dating back to 2019 in other publications, including the New York Times and Vanity Fair, as sources of his information.
President Trump Thursday confirmed the threat and said he gave his blessing to his wife’s legal strategy.
“I said, ‘Go forward,’” the president told Fox News radio. “Jeffrey Epstein has nothing to do with Melania and I introducing. But they do that. They make up stories.”
Melania Trump’s lawyer, Alejandro Brito, made the jumbo-sized lawsuit threat in a letter to Hunter Biden dated Aug. 6. The letter was first reported Wednesday night by Fox News.
The first lady takes issue with comments former President Biden’s son made in a widely reported YouTube interview last month with journalist Andrew Callaghan.
“Epstein introduced Melania to Trump,” Biden said at the time. “The connections are, like, so wide and deep.”
Melania and Donald Trump have said they were introduced by Paolo Zampolli, a modelling agent, at a New York fashion week party in 1998.
They both acknowledge having been friends with Epstein, who lived near Trump’s Mar-a-Lago waterfront club in Palm Beach. But President Trump says he cut off ties with the sex trafficker because he was a “creep” and “stole” his employees.
“The statements are false, defamatory and extremely salacious,” Brito said, adding the remarks were widely disseminated on social media and reported by media outlets around the world, causing the first lady “to suffer overwhelming financial and reputational harm.”
Hunter Biden was convicted of federal drug and gun charges, but was pardoned by his father in the last weeks of his administration.
The interview with Callaghan marked a return to the public spotlight for Hunter Biden in which he also denounced top Democrats for forcing his dad to pull the plug on his 2024 reelection bid.
