Inmate escapes custody at Seattle-Tacoma Airport, flees on train

An inmate who was being extradited to Kentucky escaped custody at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on Sunday before fleeing into the city on a train.

The escape occurred around 11 a.m. Sunday when an agent transporting Sedrick T. Stevenson to Kentucky was checking in at the ticket counter, Port of Seattle Police said.

He was being transported there by a “contracted agent,” according to the port.

They lost control and Stevenson made a break for the nearby light rail station before disappearing.

They later confirmed through security camera footage Stevenson boarded the light rail train headed north into Seattle.

He was later seen on security footage departing the Capitol Hill Station in Seattle — more than a dozen stops away from the airport.

In one photo provided by the Port of Seattle, Stevenson’s hands are pictured handcuffed in front of him. (Port of Seattle photo)

Officials have not provided information about how Stevenson managed to evade multiple contracted agents while his wrists and ankles were restrained.

The trains were not delayed despite alerts going out about Stevenson’s presence, according to King 5.

Stevenson is wanted on warrants out of Bowling Green, Ky. He was last seen wearing a white shirt, a white zip-up hoodie, grey pants and white sneakers. He is described as 5-foot-8-inches tall, African American, 28 years-old with dark dreadlocks.

Stevenson has escaped custody previously, according to The Seattle Times. After fleeing Kentucky on a number of charges in Nov. 2022, he was stopped in Tennessee after a high-speed pursuit. When a state trooper attempted to put him in the back of a patrol car, Stevenson wriggled free and escaped into the woods. He turned himself in several days later.
