Gwyneth Paltrow might not want to take a walk down this memory lane.
Ione Skye’s new memoir, “Say Everything,” has a slew of stories from her life, including her Mexico vacation alongside her brother, Donovan Leitch, and his then-girlfriend, Gwyneth Paltrow.
In the book, Skye, 54, explained that she and her then-husband, Adam Horovitz, decided to join Leitch and Paltrow, 52, on a getaway after an earthquake hit Los Angeles.
“Vacationing with Dono and his intimidating new girlfriend (yes, that Gwyneth) did not exactly sound relaxing, but anything was more relaxing than living in fear of the next earthquake,” Skye wrote in her book, which is out now.
The actress added that while the four of them had fun together, the Goop founder – who spent the week reading scripts – was snappy toward Leitch, 57, who was sick in bed.
“At breakfast, Dono had distractedly tipped his water glass (he was one of the world’s most distracted people). A few drops had splashed Gwyneth, and she’d snapped, ‘Idiot.’ With a laugh, but still,” Skye claimed.
The interaction bothered the “River’s Edge” star so much that she asked her brother about it in private.
Skye said the interaction didn’t sit well with her.
“Is Gwyneth always mean to you like that?” she recalled asking Leitch. “Dono laughed … My brother was smitten. He was 27 and looking toward the future, to marriage and kids. Gwyneth was only 21 and wasn’t ready for anything too serious. Well, at least not yet. Six months later, she’d get a part in ‘Seven’ and fly to Reno to meet Brad Pitt — and we all know how that turned out.”
Paltrow and Leitch dated from 1993 to 1995. Years later, they proved they were on good terms.
In Sept. 2013, the celebs shared a friendly kiss on the lips during a Los Angeles Dodgers baseball game.
Paltrow was married to her now ex-husband Chris Martin at the time, with Leitch telling the Daily Mail in Mar. 2014 that their smooch was “purely” platonic.
“I was just saying goodbye to her. It was purely innocent,” the actor explained. “We were sitting in the owner’s box in front of 30,000 people with her two children right next to us. That isn’t exactly the setting for a secret liaison.”
But Skye knows that writing this memoir might stir up old news, such as Paltrow and Leitch’s kiss.
“I’m a little nervous,” Skye told People. “I don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings.”
But when it came to telling the story of Paltrow, the author had no qualms.
“She has an awareness of who she is, and I feel like that’s one of her superpowers,” Skye admitted. “She’s amazing in that she understands her world, and she always has a good reaction to people coming after her for things she says.”
Skye also made it clear that this recollection is nothing against the “Shallow Hal” alum.
“We were what, 21 at the time? We were so young,” she continued. “At the time, we thought we were so grown-up!”
And she’s proud of the book she has completed.
“It’s almost like motherhood, in that you know it’s going to be a huge experience, but you don’t know how big until you get there,” Skye gushed. “But it’s one of my favorite projects I’ve ever done. And yes, I do care about what others will think. But I also have the feeling that everything will be okay.”
