Congressional candidate Jack Schlossberg isn’t a fan of producer the Ryan Murphy-produced FX show about the Kennedy family.
“Love Story,” which began streaming last month, offers Murphy’s take on the relationship between Schlossberg’s uncle, John F. Kennedy Jr., and his wife, Caroline Bessette. The celebrated pair died in a 1999 plane crash when they were both in their 30s. According to Schlossberg, there are better ways to spend time than tuning into the “fiction” that concludes its first season on March 26.
“Well, if you want to know someone who’s never met anyone in my family, knows nothing about us, talk to Ryan Murphy.” he told CBS’ “Sunday Morning” in an interview. “I would just want people who do watch the show to watch it with one letter in mind, and that’s a capital F for fiction. The guy knows nothing about what he’s talking about.”
Murphy’s work includes fictional hits “Glee,” “Pose” and” American Horror Story,” as well as biopics about the designer Halston, convicted killers Lyle and Erik Menendez and disgraced football star O.J. Simpson. While Halston and Simpson are dead, the Menendez brothers claim Murphy’s show about them contains “blatant lies.”
While Murphy is the producer behind “Love Story,” the series was created by Connor Hines and Murphy did not write or direct any of the eight episodes in the series.
Schlossberg takes issue with the fact the limited series is cashing in on the Kennedy family and hopes the filmmaker donates some of his profits to charity.
“He’s making a ton of money on a grotesque display of someone else’s life,” Schlossberg said. “This is not a documentary and I’ll leave it at that.”
The 33-year-old Democrat his announced his candidacy to represent New York’s 12th congressional district in November. He hoped to replace Rep. Jerry Nadler, who’s stepping away from Congress after 34 years of service.
