James Marsden reveals what he was ‘worried’ about for his big ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ return

He’s got his eye on it.

James Marsden will reprise his “X-Men” role as Scott Summers / Cyclops in “Avengers Doomsday.”

“I was worried that I wasn’t going to be able to do any of this physical stuff, but it all worked out great. I still fit the costume!” Marsden, 52, told The Post.

Marsden, who was talking to The Post while promoting Season 2 of the AppleTV+ show “Your Friends & Neighbors,” originally played Cyclops in 2000’s “X-Men,” when he was 26.

Along with the first “X-Men” movie’s stars, Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Ian McKellen, and Patrick Stewart, he also reprised the role in “X2: X Men United” (2003) and “X Men: The Last Stand” (2006).

About filming “Avengers: Doomsday,”  Marsden told The Post that it was “great to see my old friends again, and to reunite with Patrick and Ian and Rebecca,” referring to Stewart, McKellen, and Rebecca Romijn.

“For the longest time, I didn’t think it was going to happen,” Marsden told The Post. “I just thought, ‘okay, well, that’s kind of done…they don’t want the fifty year-old version of me.’”

His concerns about his age were alleviated during filming, when he saw that McKellen, 86, was “pushing his stunt double aside going, ‘let me try!’”

The “Paradise” actor was tight-lipped about the plot but said, “It’s going to be a lot of fun seeing all these worlds come together.”

With the exception of Jackman’s Wolverine, who appeared in the 2024 hit “Deadpool & Wolverine,” these X-Men characters haven’t been in the larger Marvel world. But the “Avengers: Doomsday” trailer revealed that several of them will be featured in the movie.

They’ll appear alongside previously announced “Doomsday” stars such as Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans.

“Doomsday” will be the 39th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and a sequel to 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame.”

“Avengers: Doomsday” premieres Dec. 18, 2026.
