Jay Leno sure has looked better.
The 74-year-old comedian had a black eye, a swollen face and a bandaged wrist as he arrived at the Comedy for Koby event in Beverly Hills on Monday night.
Leno, who was sporting an eye patch, told TMZ that he was “holding up fine” before revealing how he got injured.
“I was staying at a hotel, it was on a hill,” he explained. “I said, ‘Where’s a good place to eat?’ ‘Oh the bottom.’ The restaurant was there, but to get to it, I didn’t have a car. So I had to walk about a mile and a half around.”
“I said, ‘Well the hill doesn’t look that steep. It’s about 60, 70 feet. Let me see if I can go down there,’” Leno continued, adding that he “fell down” the hill when he tried venturing to the restaurant.
“I rolled down the hill. Hit my head on a rock. Knocked me in my eye,” he shared.
Despite the incident, the former “Tonight Show” host revealed he did a comedy show before he went to the hospital in Los Angeles to get treated for his injuries.
He explained that his fall occurred “only a couple of hours” before his show started.
“It’s not that big a deal. It’s alright,” Leno added.
After noting that the show must go even in instances like this, Leno shared the lesson he learned from the incident.
“The great thing about this age is you don’t learn by your mistakes. You keep doing the same stupid thing,” he said.
Leno is no stranger to dealing with gnarly injuries.
In Nov. 2022, he was working on one of his cars in his garage when an accident occurred, giving him third-degree burns on his face and sending him to the ICU.
The “Jay Leno’s Garage” host needed multiple skin grafts for his facial injuries.
Just two months later, he broke multiple bones in a motorcycle accident.
However, Leno joked about both incidents at his comedy shows after he fully recovered.
The Emmy Award winner has also been dealing with his wife Mavis’ dementia battle. The former late-night host was officially granted conservatorship over Mavis, 78, in April.
The couple, who do not have children, married in 1980 after meeting at the Comedy Store in the ’70s.
“We have a lot of fun,” Leno said about himself and his wife in an interview with Fox News Digital earlier this year. “People say marriage is difficult. I don’t get it. I enjoy her company. I enjoy taking care of her. We have fun. She’s the most independent woman I ever knew. Again, I just couldn’t be prouder of her.”
