JD Vance fumbles Ohio State’s national championship trophy

With a fumble of this magnitude, it’s a good thing vice president JD Vance chose to go into politics instead of football.

Ohio State visited the White House Monday afternoon to be honored by Vance and President Trump for their CFP national championship win in January.

While Trump and Vance prepared to pose for a photo with the Buckeyes players and coaches, Vance attempted to pick up the championship trophy and couldn’t quite handle it cleanly.

The trophy’s top half detached from the bottom half as the blocky pedestal that allows the trophy to stand on its own hit the ground.

The grand top half narrowly avoided involvement in the major party foul as those around Vance, including running back TreVeyon Henderson, helped keep it from falling.

Vance and Co. attempted to reattach the trophy to no avail — the Vice President posed for the photo with just the top of the trophy.

“I didn’t want anyone after Ohio State to get the trophy so I decided to break it,” Vance, an Ohio State alum, joked on X after the mishap.

Vance graduated from Ohio State in just two years back in 2009, which Trump applauded him for while speaking Monday.

“[Vance] was such a good student, he didn’t stay there for four years,” Trump said. “He got out in two years, No. 1 in his class. How do you do that?”

Trump’s recognition didn’t stop there.

“With us are many Ohio State fans from my administration,” he said. “The biggest of them all of course is our vice president, who’s been fantastic — a faithful Buckeye alum, JD Vance.”

After his time at Ohio State, Vance attended Yale Law School.

The Buckeyes were the latest team to visit the White House this year since Trump returned to office after the Florida Panthers and Los Angeles Dodgers.
