Jennifer Lopez says being a single parent has occasionally made her question whether she is “enough” for her twins, Max and Emme.
J.Lo, 55, spoke about raising her sixteen-year-old children while discussing her new movie, “Unstoppable,” a sports drama based on the true story of wrestler Anthony Robles, who was born with one leg and made history when he won the 2011 NCAA individual national championship. Lopez plays his mother, Judy Robles.
“I’ve been a single mom at times in my life, and [I’ve asked,] ‘Am I enough for them?’ ” she told Entertainment Weekly. “And the truth is, all you need is really one good parent to love you.”
“You hear it in Anthony’s voice, and look what he’s been able to accomplish,” Lopez added of the wrestling champ.
“That’s what the movie gave me: You are enough.”
Robles’ real mom praised Lopez’s performance.
“She was able to really take on how I felt — the highs and the lows,” Judy told Entertainment Weekly of J.Lo’s portrayal. “We long to be loved, and we want something impossible to work out. And even when we see it and we’re like, ‘But I’ve got to keep pushing’ — there’s always a little bit of hope.”
Lopez and her ex-husband Marc Anthony, 56, welcomed twins Max and Emme in 2008. The former couple married in 2004, and Anthony filed for divorce in 2012. The couple finalized the dissolution of their marriage in 2014.
The “Enough” star has been prioritizing spending time with her children as of late.
During an appearance on “The Graham Norton Show” last month, Lopez talked about canceling her “This Is Me… Live” tour in May to spend the summer with Max and Emme.
“I decided to take the summer off and be home with the kids and it was the best thing I think I’ve ever done,” Lopez said on the episode.
“It’s not like me to do that and when it comes up, I like to apologize to the fans because I know a lot of them were coming out,” she added.
Lopez, who is in the middle of a divorce from husband Ben Affleck, 52, also spent time this summer with Affleck’s three children — Violet, 19; Seraphina, 15; and Samuel, 12 — whom he shares with his ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, 52.
In May, the “On The Floor” singer attended Violet’s high school graduation party alongside Affleck, despite having separated in April. Though Affleck and Lopez spent the summer apart, Violet visited her stepmom in the Hamptons in July.
The following month, Lopez was spotted taking her stepson Samuel out shopping in LA ahead of Affleck’s birthday.
J.Lo and Affleck reunited their blended family in September for brunch at The Beverly Hills Hotel, bringing all of their kids except Violet, who had already started her Freshman fall semester at Yale.
