Jessica Simpson, Eric Johnson signed a prenup: all the details

Jessica Simpson made sure to protect her bag the second time around.

The “I Think I’m in Love With You” singer, 44, revealed she signed a prenuptial agreement before saying “I do” to Eric Johnson in 2014, which should make their split pretty cut and dry if they decide to file for divorce.

Simpson — whose reported net worth was $200 million in 2022 — discussed her decision for a prenup in her marriage to Johnson after expressing regret about not signing one with her first husband, Nick Lachey.

The fashion designer was famously married to the 98 Degrees singer, 51, from 2002 to 2006.

Lachey wanted one, but she didn’t. She spoke about the dilemma several times.

“We got in a big argument over it,” Simpson told Access Hollywood about her conversation with Lachey while promoting her 2020 memoir, “Open Book.”

“And, so, he eventually was like, ‘Okay. No prenup,’” she added.

However, Simpson later changed her tune when their marriage imploded.

“During the divorce, I was like, ‘I should have signed that prenup,’” she recalled to the outlet.

“The Dukes of Hazzard” star made sure she didn’t make the same mistake twice.

“We both were, actually!” Simpson said about her and Johnson’s willingness to sign an agreement to protect themselves in case of a divorce before walking down the aisle over a decade ago.

“We connected over both being divorced and having our hearts broken, and knowing who we wanted for the rest of our lives” she explained.

Simpson announced her separation from Johnson on Jan. 13 after months of split speculation.

“Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage,” she told People in a statement.

“Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family.”

Simpson met the former NFL tight end in 2010, and they were engaged six months later.

They didn’t wed until 2014 after welcoming their daughter, Maxwell Drew, 12, and son, Ace Knute, 11, who served as flower girl and ring bearer, respectively, in their ceremony.

As of this post, neither has filed for divorce.

While Simpson did not disclose the specifics of the prenup, she appeared to give clues that her marriage with Johnson was over.

In Nov., eagle-eyed fans noticed that she hadn’t been sporting her wedding ring for several months amid reports they “very much live separate lives.”

Johnson fueled the split rumors when he stepped out in L.A. that month without wearing his precious metal band.

Those weren’t the only clues.

Fans also noticed that Simpson hadn’t included Johnson on her Instagram page since September 2023, when she wished him a happy 44th birthday.

One month later, she shared a cryptic post and revealed she was recording an album, which she described as “an apology” to herself.

“Interviews in my Nashville music room where I unearthed my singular magic,” Simpson, who has not released a non-holiday studio album since 2008, added,”This comeback is personal, it’s an apology to myself for putting up with everything I did not deserve.”
