Jets cornerback Kris Boyd, who was shot in the abdomen on Nov. 16, made a surprise visit to the facility on Wednesday.
Boyd’s visit came one week after announcing on social media that he had returned to the hospital “due to health issues.”
That’s the last update on Boyd’s condition.
“It was really cool,” Jets special teams coordinator Chris Banjo said. “Very, very thankful that he’s alive. Good to see his face, good to see him smiling.”
Boyd, 29, was shot following a dispute on Nov.16 outside of the Asian restaurant Sei Less on West 38th Street around 2 a.m. The bullet traveled to his lung and Boyd was rushed to Bellevue Hospital with then critical injuries.
Jets linebacker Jamien Sherwood and wide receiver/special teamer Irvin Charles and another friend, were with Boyd at the time of shooing when an altercation broke out between them and another group, apparently about “stylish clothes,” New York Police Department Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said.
The NYPD released surveillance footage of the suspected gunman after the shooting. But the investigation is still ongoing and no arrests have been made at this time.
Boyd signed a one-year, $1.6 million contract with the Jets last offseason. But he suffered a season-ending shoulder injury during training camp and was placed on injured reserve in August. Before signing with the Jets, Boyd played with the Vikings for four years, followed by a year with the Cardinals and two with the Texans.
“That was very emotional to be able to see him,” Jets defensive coordinator Steve Wilks said about having Boyd back at the facility. “It was a private moment between all of us. I will leave it at that, but it was great to see him in the building.”
