Jets make several staff changes, Wink Martindale interviewing for DC role

Following a 3-14 campaign, Aaron Glenn is making sweeping changes to his staff.

He fired quarterback coach Charles London, defensive line coach Eric Washington, linebacker coach Aaron Curry, passing game coordinator Scott Turner and defensive assistants Alonso Escalante and Roosevelt Williams, a source confirmed to the Daily News.

In addition, Wink Martindale is flying in for an in-person interview with the Jets for their vacant defensive coordinator position on Saturday. SNY first reported Martindale coming in for a second interview.

Significant changes were expected following a horrific 2025 season. The Jets were outscored 188-54 in their final five games.

Gang Green finished 25th in yards allowed (355.6) and 31st in points (29.6). Glenn fired Steve Wilks following an embarrassing 48-20 Week 15 loss to the Jaguars.

The Jets were also equally terrible offensively, ranking 29th in yards (263.6) and points per game (17.6).

Gang Green has previously interviewed eight candidates for its defensive coordinator role, including Martindale. Chris Harris, who was the interim defensive coordinator for the final three games after Wilks was fired; defensive pass game coordinator and assistant head coach Jim Leonhard; Vikings defensive passing game coordinator and defensive backs coach Daronte Jones; Browns safeties coach Ephraim Banda; Dolphins cornerback coach Mathieu Araujo’ Lions defensive assistant Jim O’Neil and Packers defensive line coach and run game coordinator DeMarcus Covington.

Martindale, 62, has been the prohibitive favorite to land the Jets defensive coordinator role. He has seven years of NFL defensive coordinator experience with the Broncos, Ravens and the Giants.

For the past two seasons, Martindale served as Michigan’s defensive coordinator under former coach Sherrone Moore.

In his final season as the Giants’ defensive coordinator in 2023, Martindale led a unit that was tied for the league in turnovers (31). The Jets finished with a league-low four turnovers in 2025.
