With questions about its receiving corps, Gang Green signed a veteran free agent to help quarterback Justin Fields.
On Thursday, the Jets announced they signed wide receiver Josh Reynolds to a one-year contract. The deal could be worth up to $5 million, according to NFL Network.
Reynolds, 30, became a free agent on March 7 after the Jaguars released him before the start of free agency. He was due to make a base salary of $3.99 million in 2025, along with carrying a salary cap hit of $4.26 million.
During his eight years in the NFL, Reynolds has been a journeyman. He began his career with the Rams after they selected him in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft out of Texas A&M.
Reynolds spent four seasons with the Rams and was part of their 2018 team that lost to the Patriots in Super Bowl LIII. In 2020, he recorded a career-high in catches (52) and yards (618) in Los Angeles. Reynolds also registered two touchdowns that season.
After leaving the Rams in 2021, Reynolds has played with the Titans, Lions, Broncos and Jaguars. He will be reunited with Jets coach Aaron Glenn and offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand, who both were in Detroit during Reynolds’ three seasons with the team (2021-23). During his three seasons with the Lions, Reynolds caught 97 passes for 1,393 yards and 10 touchdowns.
In 2024, Reynolds signed a two-year, $9 million contract with the Broncos, hoping to boost their receiver room under coach Sean Payton. But after recording 12 receptions for 183 yards and one touchdown in five games, Reynolds suffered a fractured finger and was placed on injured reserve last October.
In addition to his finger injury, Reynolds was also injured in a shooting in Denver last October. Police termed his injuries as “non-life-threatening” to his head and left arm.
After designating him to return from injured reserve last November, the Broncos released Reynolds after they had to move him to the 53-man roster or keep him on injured reserve. With two younger receivers in front of him on the depth chart, Denver decided to release Reynolds instead.
Reynolds will join a thin Jets wide receiver group after releasing Davante Adams earlier this month. Top receiver Garrett Wilson is entering his fourth season in the league, and the only depth behind him is now Reynolds, Xavier Gipson and Malachi Corley.
Allen Lazard remains on the Jets’ roster, but the expectation is he will eventually be released.
During his eight NFL seasons, Reynolds has caught 233 receptions for 3,127 yards and 20 touchdowns.
