The Jets have extended a second player before the season ends.
Tight end Jeremy Ruckert agreed to a $10 million contract extension on Wednesday, sources told the Daily News.
Ruckert, 25, who has the Jets’ third-round pick in 2022, is having the best season of his career. In 14 games as the Jets’ second-string tight end behind rookie Mason Taylor, Ruckert has caught a career-high 20 passes for 163 yards and a touchdown. He has also been a contributor on special teams and has been a solid blocker this season.
Ruckert was scheduled to become a free agent in March. The Jets will now have him locked up until after 2027. Ruckert grew up a Jets fan after growing up in Lindenhurst, New York.
Last week, the Jets signed center Josh Myers to a two-year, $11 million extension last week. The Jets are scheduled to have 24 unrestricted free agents once the new league year begins on March 11.
Jets general manager Darren Mougey has been bold by signing impending free agents before the season ends. Players who will be free agents in March include running back Breece Hall, linebacker Quincy Williams, guard John Simpson, quarterback Tyrod Taylor, and offensive lineman Alijah Vera-Tucker.
