John Elway, ex-agent involved in golf cart accident

Retired NFL quarterback John Elway was reportedly driving a golf cart with his former agent Jeff Sperbeck when the latter man suffered life-threatening injuries.

Elway was behind the wheel of the cart on Saturday evening in La Quinta, Calif. when Sperbeck fell off off the back and hit his head on asphalt, TMZ reported.

Sperbeck, 61, suffered serious injury and is now on life support. He is not expected to survive.

Elway reportedly made the 911 call immediately after the accident and informed dispatchers Sperbeck was unconscious but breathing. He was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs.

The two men and their wives had been at the Stagecoach music festival in Indio earlier in the day and were leaving a party at The Madison Club, a private golf community,  when Sperbeck was hurt.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office told KESQ that it is investigating the incident, but it’s unclear if Elway will face any charges.

Sperbeck represented Elway during his Hall of Fame NFL career with the Denver Broncos and the two started 7Cellars winery more than 10 years ago.
