MSNBC is cutting ties with progressive political analyst and broadcast news anchor Joy Reid and moving Jen Psaki, Symone Sanders Townsend, Michael Steele and Alicia Menendez to prominent evening spots.
Reid told viewers she’s leaving the left-leaning cable channel on social media early Monday, when she thanked supporters and colleagues for the nearly five years her program ran.
“See you tomorrow at 7, one more time,” the “ReidOut” host posted to Instagram
MSNBC president Rebecca Kutler announced the changes in a memo to staffers Monday that thanked Reid for “her countless contributions over the years” that resulted in her receiving the 2025 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding News Series.
Townsend, Steele and Menendez will move into the 7p.m. weekday hour within a couple months. That trio currently hosts MSNBC’s “The Weekend.”
Until then, the network plans to use a rotation of anchors.
Psaki takes over MSNBC’s 9 p.m. hour on Tuesday through Friday starting in late April. Kutler launched “Inside with Jen Psaki” in 2023 shortly after the White House press secretary left her job with the Biden administration in 2022. That primetime program has become MSNBC’s most-watched weekend show.
“The Rachel Maddow Show” will continue occupying the 9 p.m. slot on Mondays once President Trump has completed his first 100 days in office.
Kutler was formally tapped to run MSNBC earlier this month after serving as its interim president. MSNBC says the CNN veteran is looking to fill positions including head of talent, head of content strategy and Washington bureau chief as she further puts her stamp on the brand.
Kutler told MSNBC leadership earlier this month the news business faces many challengers and that “these are not normal times.”
NBC News also announced a big change Monday.
Veteran newsman Lester Holt, 65, will leave his position as “NBC Nightly News” anchor at some point this summer after a decade on the job.
Parent company Comcast announced in November that due to plans to restructure its assets, MSNBC and NBC News would no longer share a corporate connection.
